STARTING SYSTEM

The starter is obviously the main component of the starting system. It is powered by the battery via the ignition switch.

This above shows the schematics for the starting system. When power is applied to the S terminal, the pinion gear is pulled out to make contact with the flywheel (to turn the engine over). At the same time, the terminals B and M are shorted out and the starter motor turns. Power is applied to the S terminal when the ignition switch is on START and the inter-lock switch is on. The inter-lock switch is off when the clutch pedal is not depressed as a safety measure. Note that power is always applied to the B terminal since it connects directly to the positive battery post.
